Description

Delicious and fluffy sourdough donuts that are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 0 cup active sourdough starter
  • 0 cup warm whole milk
  • 0 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0 teaspoon salt
  • 0 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional glaze, powdered sugar, or cinnamon sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, mix the sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, eggs, and softened butter until smooth.
  2. Add flour, salt, and nutmeg. Mix and knead for 6-8 minutes until dough is soft and slightly tacky.
  3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise at room temperature for 6-8 hours until doubled.
  4. On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out 12 donuts using 3-inch and 1-inch cutters.
  5. Place cut donuts on parchment-lined trays, cover loosely, and rise for another 1 to 2 hours until puffy.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on a wire rack.
  7. While warm, dip in glaze or coat with cinnamon sugar. Let set before serving.
